As we all tackle the new challenges COVID-19 brings, the AMaGA Western Australia staff and Committee are committed to providing support and guidance to collecting organisations in the State.
We are continuing to monitor and share the advice from Federal and State government departments in order to keep the sector informed and to help you make the best decisions for your staff and volunteers as well as the ongoing business of your organisation.
On Monday 23 March, Premier Mark McGowan announced that all ‘cultural institutions including libraries, museums, art galleries’ were required to close by the end of the day.
Under this advice, AMaGA Western Australia strongly recommended that all museums and art galleries close to the public immediately. There has been a very positive and supportive response from the sector and we congratulate everyone on following Government advice.
While this will bring a period of unprecedented uncertainty and financial strain to many organisations, it is hoped it will be a temporary measure to protect the community as a whole.
Arts, culture and heritage are resilient and will be vital to community connectedness, morale and well-being, and invaluable in the recovery period when people are seeking to reconnect. Our sector is known for the support we provide one another; that will be needed more than ever as we look for opportunities to adapt and continue to care for and share the collections, stories and collective memories of our communities.
AMaGA Western Australia will continue to provide you with up-to-date advice on the economic assistance relevant to our sector, news from reliable sources as information comes to light, and advice on projects that you may be able to undertake in isolation, or from your new remote workplace.
