Museums Galleries Australia WA is very excited to be able to invite you to attend an exclusive Masterclass on “The Happy Museums Project” with Tony Butler on Wednesday 10 May from 9am-2pm (lunch incl).

Tony Butler (the Chair and Founder of the Happy Museum) is a social history curator at the heart of The Happy Museum and has been Executive Director of Derby Museums Trust since 2013.

This masterclass will provide a leadership framework for museums to develop a holistic approach to wellbeing and sustainability. The project re-imagines the museum’s purpose as steward of people, place and planet, supporting institutional and community wellbeing and resilience in the face of global challenges.

The Principles of the Happy Museum are:

  • Create the conditions for wellbeing
  • Value the environment and be a steward of the future as well as the past
  • Be an active citizen
  • Pursue mutual relationships
  • Learn for resilience &
  • Measure what matters


To cover the cost of bringing Tony Butler out from the UK the fee for the masterclass is between $250-300pp.
